Shoe Addiction!!!!

Police caught a gang of 6 cocaine smugglers this week. The gang would turn cocaine into copies of Manolo Blahnik's. basically they used a process that turned the cocaine into a paste and molded the cocaine into the high end heels. Then paint the molds to look like different styles of the famous Manolo's. Then they would get people called mulls to transport the shoes to other countries where the copies would be processed to powder cocaine and distributed. I thought I was creative with my shoes but this takes being creative to a whole new level. The shoes/cocaine were worth $630,000.

Fall is in the Air

Now that Fall has come, I've put low lights in my hair. I advise everyone to start to make the move to the cooler months ahead. Leting your hair grow is another way of moving into the winter months. I think the best way to do this is to see your hairstylist more often to give you a new style for your growing hair. That way you won't go crazy trying to handle the new length and this helps keep you from cutting it. I've also taken out my sweaters and put up my sandles. I love the change in season because I feel like I got a lot of new clothes when I pull out my winter wardrobe. Another tip I do is only buy three new items for the new season and I try to get rid of three. I do this because I need to save space. If you don't need to save space I believe it's still a good idea so that you stay current. I hope these tips help you move into winter.

At 17 Justin Bieber is in the center of a maternity suit. Justin Bieber needed to be watching more "Leave it to Beaver" than making songs about Babies his latest release called amazingly "Baby". "As the World Turns" for Justin. I wonder what Selena Gomez 19 his girlfriend thinks of all of this?. Justin's mother Pattie Mallette was just 18 when she had Justin and raised him as a single mom, "The Apple doesn't fall far from the Tree". If this is true Justin Bieber only lasted 30 second in the beaver his fans are going to be disappointed. If Mariah is lying what lies ahead for her? What do Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Fantasy and Jennifer Hudson have in common besides being black female singers? They all have new movies coming to the movies soon. Mary J. Blige is going to be Nina Simone. I've been reading alot about this and some people don't think she is the right choice. Think again Mary J. Blige has been breaking walls down since we first heard her music. Whitney Houston has been gone from the big screen for sometime. She better have a controlled environment, so that she doesn't go Bobby Brown on us. Fantasy will be playing Mahalia Jackson. I worked with her on the Color Purple on Broadway and she's got the chops as long as they don't ask her to do 8 shows a week for 8 months....LOL....Jennifer Hudson is going to be Winnie Mandela, do I hear OSCAR buzzzz?? April 1st. should have been Kim Kardashian's wedding day and all she would have had to say was, sike (April fools)!!! Really, she clearly does not take marriage seriously, 72 days is all she could do on her second marriage. After all the money spent and freebies. It's clear that there is something going wrong in this family and our society keeps rewarding this bad behavior. Please stop, this for the sake of the young people watching this. Barbara Walters needs to interview Kim's mother so that we can get a better insight on what's going on in this family. Because as it stands now the Kardashian's seem like a bunch of spoiled brats. I believe if parents had to pay for the mistakes there children made parents would do a better job. Make them Pay or make them give back everything that was given to them for that wedding. Kim Kardashian needs to be taught a lesson.

Now, why is it when Kim Kardashian gets freebie's and money, for her wedding it's O.K? I remember not so long ago WHEN Star Jones did that for her wedding and she was dogged in the press. There seems to be a double standard in Hollywood or is it just me. Star was dogged for being cheap and ostentatious. Kim got $10,000.00 worth of invitations free received $50,000.00 to host her bachelorette party at Tao and a cake estimated at $6,000.00 from Hansen's Cakes. These are just a few of the perks this reality star received not to mention the 1.5 million plus from people magazine for the pictures of her wedding and engagement ring. Kim Kardashhian is only a reality star that had a sex tape who's mother married an athlete. Star Jones is a Lawyer turned talk show host, brains and talent. It really troubles me to think that Star's skin was not light enough and she was not thin enough for Hollywood or the media. Star flaunted her "fabulosity" around and Hollywood could not take her. I'm getting very tired of the American press and society wanting black people to be so humble and subservient. Kim with her 2.5 million 65 carat Diamond Lorraine Schwartz headpiece, her $2 million Schwartz engagement ring, 20.5 carat diamond on her right hand, her 28 carat earring worth $5 million. If this isn't ostentatious I don't know what is! And, now the press wants to talk about Obama going to Martha's Vineyard for his vacation, with the economy in the state that it's in. It really feels like this country has come a long way and has even further to go. Kim could have gotten the entire country out of debt with what she did or did not spend on her wedding. It just reminds me of Marie Antoinette and "Let them Eat Cake". Hollywood and the press needs to wake up! The American people are smarter than that.

I was reading in the New York Post on July 27th. 2011 that Alexander McQueen, the fashion designer killed himself and Jeret "Speedy" Peterson an Olympic silver medalist was found dead in an apparent suicide. And, that yesterday was Amy Whinehouse's funeral ceremony. It struck me as I was reading this that all three of these people were very successful in their careers but not in life. This is why I have always been thankful for my parents and my life. I have said so many times that I'm naturally happy and that's what gives me strength when times are tough. And, I give all thanks to my parents. From my up bringing or genetics whichever you pick the credit goes to my parents. I feel very thankful, for my life. And, this is success!! I believe that people need to re-evaluate what they think success is, and I've always felt successful because OF MY LIFE and not for the things that I've done or acquired!!!!

Something about Merry

Today, I got an email from Merry (of Meredith Harper weddings), telling me that one of her friends had died. I was suprised by this because when Meredith and I were in LA to shoot My Fair Weddings we had gone to see her friend Cleo. What you may not be able to see about Meredith is her charitable heart. Cleo was an elderly woman that Meredith had befriended a few years ago but who she always had the time for in her busy life. When I first met Cleo the first thing she said to me was "bullshit", when Meredith introduced me... "This is Marque"...most people may not know that Marque is not my given name. And, if people think it no one says that to me. Especially in this brass and blunt way, which was my impression of Cleo. I did proceed to tell her my given name which I really only reserve for my loved ones. Even with this from Cleo there was something endearing about her. But, what was more endearing to me was the time that Meredith took to spend with Cleo. Not to mention, we were on our way to a friends for a pool party. Who knew that Meredith had a 85 year friend that she spent time with. And, I could tell that this was not charity this was who Meredith was and Cleo was her friend. This really reinforces the saying, "be kind to your elders".

Baby Hair

Baby hair is not just for the Jackson's (as in Michael Jackson). All children have baby hair and I don't mean the hair around their hair line. Your hair actually will go through many changes in your life time if you live long enough. The hair that you were born with is not the hair that you have when you are 1 years old. I consider the hair between when we are born and 1 your baby hair. Please, parents pay attention!! Now, after 1 years old the next change is puberty, which is between 11 and 16 years old. The hair after puberty will last until middle age. I have heard so many black parents say that a relaxer ruined their childs hair. It's just not true unless your child ate the relaxer. Usually people of color hair gets thicker and more course. Children that are born blonde usually get darker during this time. Your hair grows from within, therefore you would have to eat the relaxer (which I doubt) . What did happen is your hair changed at puberty and your child needed that relaxer. If you do damage your hair from the outside all you have to do is cut it off and grow it again. Now there are things that you can do to your hair from the inside good and bad, which I'm going to save that for another time. Stay tuned I have much to discuss about hair.

Christian Louboutin, wants a court order to stop other designers from putting Red Bottoms on their shoes. He better get a good legal team. I bought a Red Bottom Donna Karan shoe in 1994. And, I still own the shoe in it's box. Was, Christian Louboutin even in business in 1994? I don't think so... LOL... I'm suprised that Christian Louboutin has been getting away with bullying his competitors for so long. He has sued YSL in April and they counter sued. Now Dior is coming out with a line of Red Bottom Shoes and Christain wants an injunction. Dior, I will testify....in my Red Bottom Donna Karan's....LOL.... Donna Karan must remember making that shoe. Donna Karan I say you testify.... Well, anyway I can't wait to see the out come of this battle of the shoe Diva's.

Meredith Harper Weddings did My Fair Weddings with David Tutera. Of course Meredith called me to do the hair. The setting was a beautiful home in Hills of LA. The Bride wanted sabby chic for her wedding. And, that's what she got. David Tutera really captured the shabby chic look with the ease of a pro. But, her hair and make-up was more chic than shabby. What can I say Meredith and I don't do shabby...LOL....The the bride did say to me that her hair was was she imagined what it would look like on her wedding day. And, I was missing...LOL...I landed on the cutting room floor. But, as the plane landed I had a realization. That when one door closes another opens and I after all was on my way to a gig. I've moved salons again and I don't need Therapy.

I'm now at Kayrunn Hirsch and I don't need therapy. Now I would like to explain this statement. I told my sister Alisha that if I moved salon's one more time that I needed therapy. Basicly that I was the problem and not the salons. Well, I may be the problem and the salon is NOT and I still don't need therapy. I think that the solution may be, having my own salon. Since I don't have the capitol to open a salon therefore, I'm now keeping my brushes at Kayrunn Hirsch. I found this salon through a stylist that I worked with named Kazonori, whom I worked with at Warren Tricomi years ago. WoW, what a circle of hair life....LOL...Wish me luck!!!

I have partnered with Meredith Harper Weddings and have been thrown in the world of nuptials. I'm a romantic at heart and each time I do the brides hair for her wedding day I'm reminded of the promise of love and the future. I feel that this is the brides coming out PAR -TAE...LOL... Therefore she should look like what she has invisioned and I'm a big part of that look. I've done from weddings on the beach too The Waldorf Astoria and I would like to say that nothing beats the sentiment of Meredith Harper being married in her parents backyard. Or her mothers garden. Mrs. Harper shared with me that she always wanted one of her children to get married in her backyard (garden). The love that Mrs. Harper put in this yard and can only be matched by Meredith and Jervelle Houston's love for each other. The love that Meredith's mother has for her daughter and son-in-law Jerverlle was even more evident when Mrs. Harper explained to me that she was unable to have her hair and makeup done because she was working on the table settings and the bouquets for the brides maids. Which all the flowers were from Mrs. Harpers garden. LOVES WAS DEFINiTLY IN THE AIR!!! It is so appropriate that Meredith has decided to direct her makeup skills to the world of nuptials, she really believes in love and marriage and it is a marriage made to last. I look forward to making many brides look beautiful on her wedding day.

Today I was in COURT. But, the business that I was handling is not what I wanted to write about, but the pregnant, in high heels, ghetto bleached blonde, white lawyer was really worth my entire day. Which I spent there to get postponed. But, back to the lawyer I was just watching a fashion show on the style channel for maturnity clothes and all the models had high heels. My "Friend Girl"... LOL...that was watching the show with me said that no pregnant women in her right mind would do that. So, was the ghetto lawyer in her right mind? Well, looking at her two inch roots and spandex leggings her mind is in question. Now please, please please women please tell me if you were seven month pregnant would you be wearing high heels to court? Yes, she was 7 months pregnant. I would love to here from you. Lady GaGa wore a dress made out of meat on the MTV VMA's and Gabourey Sidibe is on the cover of Elle magazine. What is fashion becoming?? An anorexic white girl dressed in a pig and a big black girl as a pig. What's next? I'm afraid of the answer, we all should be afraid. Does this mean that fashion is changing or the powers that be (the fashion world) has run out of ideas. Please we really need to get creative and not desperate for change. Please I'm all for being creative and change (I voted for Obama) but there are limits. Lady GaGa needs to stick to her music and leave the political statement to the politicians. And Gabourey Sidibe needs to eat a salad and move her ass.

One of my favorite songs of all times is "Free Your Mind" by En Vogue. And, I had the honor to do there hair for their performance for the Derek Jeter foundation Turn 2. After 20 years they are still going strong and looking good. I would like to say after all their success they are very pleasant women to work with.

A little backstage drama was that they were sewing the dresses themselves before the
performance. I was not going to talk about this but I said that to Dawn and she said go right ahead, "it's real life". That shows you how real they are and why they are still around.

Nothing But A Number!!

Age is only a number. Carmen Dell'Orefice is a perfect example of this at 78 she is still modeling. I think what makes Carmen beautiful at 78 is the confidence in which she embraces herself which only comes with age. The modeling industry needs to take notice of this and not put models out to pasture at the age of 35 and I'm pushing that number. Carmen has had a 64 year career in modeling which has had as many turns in the road as lines on her 78 year old face but the one thing that has remained constant is the interest that her face has kept over her long career. Carmen has posed for Francesco Scavullo too Richard Avedon been on the cover of Vogue too Bazaar and walked the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier too Thierry Mugler. Showing them that age is only a number...

Keeping Warm and looking Good!!

Now with the cold weather coming, I decided to give you a few of my fashion secrets on keeping warm and looking good. My first secret is long underwear. I love winter silk undergarments and they keep you warm and they do not make you look bulky. That is one of my pet peeves, not looking to bulky. I don't like those big puffy coats that look like a sleeping bag. Go get a shearling, they look good and are not bulky...LOL I believe in showing what I got and how can I do that if I'm wearing a sleeping bag... Also, cashmere is my friend another material that is warm and makes you look lean not to mention the soft feeling against your skin. Nothing like keeping, warm, looking good and feeling good. Ladies a silk scarf keeps you warm and is gentle on your hair wool drys the hair so silk is the way to go.

Well, I'm at a new salon called Me U Spa Salon and we are an Aveda concept salon. Which means we have had so many classes that I feel like I'm in high school again...LOL Well, I worked in an Aveda concept salon many years ago and I must say they have come a "long way baby". I really love the fact that they are natural and environmentally friendly. I really like the Brilliant - anti humectant and the Brilliant humectant pomades. "Night Under the Stars" is a Prom put on by the The Children's Helping Advisory Team at New York - Presbyterian (Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital) and sponsored by The New York Life Foundation Wintergarden Programming Series. Well, I got there and the beautiful young lady (18years old) was waiting having her nails done. So, I got busy working on her hair when a TV crew came in to interview her and the reporter started to ask her questions and one of the questions struck a cord with me. "What Does This Mean To You?" Well, I could not help to think about this and get very emotional. It was an honor to be asked to make someone who was in the hospital feel pretty, this is what it meant to me. I had just started to feel that this profession was a little too superficial, which is one of the reasons that I started this blog (to make a positive impact on the beauty industry). Now my next client for the event was Jasmine a beautiful 15 year old young lady who's mother informed me that Jasmine had attempted to cut her own her. Her mother went on to say "Please work a Miracle!" I proceeded with this and informed her mother that it was not going to take a miracle and that it "the beauty in her daughter's hair" was hiding and that I was going to bring it out. After it was done she said "You did a miracle" which meant that my job was done. Now, I see what I was put here for and it is to make people feel good about themselves through their hair and the manner in which I deliver this service. This is the success that I was looking for, as I go on this journey called, Life. I have arrived!!!

I had a business lunch today with Bill Witherspoon a designer that has been showcased in two Marque's Secrets. Bill also, works at the Brown Stone in Harlem which is owned by Princess. After, lunch I stopped by the Brown Stone and had a conversation with Princess and Bill while they casually went about the business of the Boutique. By the way the Brown Stone is a Boutique that caters to the upward mobile women of Harlem. As we were chatting Princess mentioned the story that I wrote called "Powder Puff" which is about Queen Latifah being sued by her make-up artist and stylist. When, Princess made a very important point... She said "That there is always two sides two a story" and "That her verdict was out until she heard Queen Latifah's side." I have to agree with her. When I first wrote the story it seems that the story that I got out of the paper was from one point of view. I would love to here what Queen Latifah's side of the story sounds like. If anyone has any news about this, I would love to here from you. Yes, Princess there are always more than one View... We should all keep this in mind...Thanks, Princess for helping me remember this..

"These are a Few of My Favorite Things"

It started maybe ten years ago when I decided to give myself a deep conditioner at home with my favorite condition Suave (Coconut). I did not have a dryer so I thought that I would just leave it on for a few hours while I watched T.V. But, when I went to the bathroom to rinse it out and looked in the mirror I loved the way my curls looked. I had never seen my curls look so silky and with so little frizz and still be soft. Until then I had been using "setting lotion" to calm the frizz of my curls, this left my hair crunchy. Thus began a new part to my beauty regiment. I know that I have said here on my blog that I use Jane Carter's "Wrap & Roll" but what I really do is alternate between the two. Which I feel is important because I believe that switching up on what you do with your hair is important and this way it does not get over conditioned by using the conditioner every day. Suave seems to give my curls the best control at the same time keeping it soft and natural looking. Please try this and give me your feed back I would love to here from you.

ic (inter cellular) from Fantasia "Hair Polisher" oil is one of my well kept secrets. I use this product behind my chair at the salon on my clients every day. I love it because it gives the hair a great shine and the moisture your hair needs without weighing down the hair, like most oils do. You can put as much as you like and you will not get the oily build up on you hair that weighs it down. But, what's even better is the reasonable price. There are many products that work similar but not as good that cost much more. I could name a few but, I'm not because this is my personal favorite...LOL Please try this product and give me your feedback, I would love to here from you.

"These are a Few of My Favorite Things"

Jane Carter Solutions is my favorite natural product. I really enjoy "Wrap and Roll" and the multiple ways you can use it. 1. I use it when I want to wear my hair curly, I just put two pumps of it in my hand after shampooing and let dry natural. 2. When I wear my hair straight, I use 3-4 pumps (depends on thickness and length of your hair) and wrap it in a circle and sit under the dryer until it drys and flat iron. 3. In the salon when I do a wet set I use Wrap and Roll as well, it works well, instead of setting lotion. 4. I use it also, in my flat twist styling at the salon and braids styling 3-4 pumps after shampooing and flat twist or braid it locks the braids and flat twist in place giving these styles a long life.

In the salon, when I come across a client that has a dry scalp I use "Scalp Renew", as a salon treatment and I recommend my clients to purchase scalp "Nourishing Serum" for home use. These two product are full of pure essential oils and ingredients like peppermint, lavender, and tea tree to just name a few.

Marque's Secret Showcasing Stacey Angela

Stay by Stacey Angela was a huge success last night at Imperial where the designer was Marque's Secret's latest showcased artist. Stacey showed that crochet is not just for grandma making a blanket for her grand-baby but also, for the fashionista. Stacey even made me blush with the crochet top she made for me. I was very surprised by the denim pieces, in which Stacey seemed to be forecasting the rise of denim in haute couture (keep a look out). I've got a funny feeling that we will be seeing a lot from this talented Designer.

"Working with What you Have!"

It's very hard to work with what you have in a society that tells you, what you have is not good, if you are not white. This started at the end of slavery when blacks had to start getting jobs. Because slavery was over, the blacks that assimilated with white society more got better jobs. In the early 1900's black women started to straighten their hair and use make up that was lighter than there skin, in order to get work. With slavery in this country ending and the growth that this country has gone through with the electing of a half white and half black president, there should be a shift in the clamouring, for recognition in this way. Therefore, making it easy to work with what you have, in your natural black beauty.

What I mean by this is, if your hair doesn't grow very long wear a short style and not get a weave. Weave can actually weaken the hair, that you can actually grow. Or, if your hair breaks when you relax it wear your hair in it's natural texture. Work with your own natural beauty!! But, first we as black people have to see the beauty in ourselves and not get our sense of beauty from others. This has to start at several levels and in several areas of life. First it has to start with the children by telling them that they are beautiful the way they are. Second as adults we must use our words wisely and not use the words such as nappy as a bad word. Nappy or straight hair are not good or bad descriptions but just different from each other. Which I believe is part of the excitement of life. The differences in people makes the world a beautiful place and that sentiment is what should be taught.

I have found in working in the hair industry, for over 25 years, when you fight your natural beauty is when you have the most trouble, in looking good. One of the most common mistakes that I see is a black woman or any person of color trying to be blonde. The darker your hair is the more it takes you to be blonde. Which means the lighter you lift your hair the dryer it will become and the more breakage you will cause to your hair. Here is one of the best examples of working with what you have by staying closer to your natural color. I will give more examples of this and advise on what to do, in time.

Now with all this said I am not saying don't relax, color, or play with your hair. I just want people of color to know the reasons behind there decisions and the consequences. And help you make an informed choice with the best results. And above all help you work with what you have. Working with your curly hair for example is easy with all the new products on the market for curly hair. Just as working with with your straight and fine hair, there are also many products on the market to help it look fuller and thicker. I am here to guide you through this process with my experience and expertise with an easy and straight forward hand or mouth...LOL I will show you the way to "working with what you have" and making an informed decision.

Remembering my Mother

Jima Deloise Johnson was my mother and I decided to give you a glance at the women who made me who I am today. It was the first Thanksgiving after my mom left my father and my mom set the feast for thanksgiving on the floor of our apartment on a shower curtain. Even though we had no furniture my mother made this one of the most special memories of my childhood, with all the trimmings turkey, stuffing, collard greens, etc. All without mentioning the lack of furniture. It was a celebration of Thanksgiving and independence. My mother had not finished high school at this time and was working part time as a cashier and going full time to school to get her G.E.D. I never heard my mother complain, you see this was my mother's quiet dignity and strong work ethic, that she passed to me without ever saying a word. My mother had not finished school because she had children young and my father had taken care of us. My mother had been a stay at home mom, until now. With the same grace that I watched her prepare this meal my mother got her G.E.D. And, the next Thanksgiving was served on a beautiful new dinning room table that my mother got with her new job after getting her G.E.D... without a word. I Learned from her that it is not what you say but what you do that is important. I remember the grace and dignity in which my mother prepared this meal and the sense of comfort that she made me feel. I carry this comfort with me to this day. Listen to what is not said you can learn a lot.

Finding your workout motivation

When I was Doing...LOL... D Woods hair for the Spike Lee premiere, we had a conversation about going to the gym. So, I decided to talk about using what motivates you to getting into shape and going to the gym or just excercising period. Personally I like going to the gym because I like the male comradery that I get when going to the gym. So, use what every it is to put excercise in your life. Being in shape has a lot to do with how you look and feel about yourself. Stay fit and look good and find your own motivation for excercise.

Ty Scott was over 2 hours late for his own show at the Imperial on March 26th. I bet Ty was waiting for those shoes to dry. Even though I was informed by my Make-up Artist Tanisha Faye that he brought the heat!!! By the way those shoes were bronze. But, this made my production look bad. I did love the show and I think it was a great way to start the spring season. Ty next time can you bring the fire and be on time or I'm going to sprinkle you with punctuality dust. Ty were are my valentino pants??? LOL... I wish I could go on a cruise after that, but work calls.

Cancellation of April's Marque's

La China Loca decided not to do April's Show a few days after seeing Ty Scott's show at The Imperial. I'm a man of my word, to bad we all aren't. The saying "The show must go on" comes to mine. And, the show will go on. I have decided to use this time to take a needed brake. May 14th. will be the next Marque's Secret. I have teamed with a New Jersey fashion production company (stay tuned). Roxanna Floyd and Susan Moses have filed separate breach of contract suits against Queen Latifah who's real name is Dana Owens. Moses says she is due $300,000 and Floyd says she is due $700,000. The women worked on the Curvations Line and "Queen Collection." This was reported in the Daily News by Thomas Zambito on March 31st 2009.

I have had the pleasure of working with Roxanna and found her to be a very honest and caring person. I hope this matter will be taking care of with speed and grace. If anyone has any information about this please leave me a comment. I would love to here from you Roxanna.

Ty Scott's Afro Disco Circus Collection!!

To spray paint the shoes that the model's were wearing...LOL Will they be dry for the 7:45 call time? If you come to the show and I can't stop looking at the model's feet you will know why. This collection is called Afro Disco Circus, be careful what you name your children they have a way of becoming there names...LOL

Is Going Green a Sham?

Now, I wore this white fun fur to a "Green Party" to be honest, I had no idea that this party was green. But, I do believe in saving the planet and doing what is healthy for all of us (earthlings). I did not wear the fur because I even recognize PETA. I just love fur fun or real. I believe in looking good and keeping warm and fur works. I was not making a political statement in anyway, just having fun. I would like to here your thoughts on this.

Is going green a sham? Saving the environment is quite the noble sentiment, but with all the faddish vegan diets, eco-friendly couture and designer hemp grocery bags, I have to wonder if “green” is nothing more than our decade’s version of heroin chic.

This was the question I hoped to answer during Thursday’s organic-themed cocktail reception for New York City’s Television Industry.

Held at Greenhouse, New York’s first eco-friendly nightclub, the party was packed with a perplexing breed of urban tree-huggers. Clad in Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs, the earthy guests swayed to Simian Mobile Disco and MGMT while indulging in the open bar’s organic beer. Master of ceremonies were the magnificent ‘Way over Budget Productions’ courtesy of Poull Brien.

Observing from our designated VIP location, $13 organic vodka soda in hand (I would have preferred to poison myself with a standard toxic martini but one must make difficult sacrifices when drinking to save Mother Earth), I spotted my first member of the Green Elite: the ruggedly handsome Adrian Grenier. Judging by his shaggy hair and bohemian ensemble, I assumed that the Entourage star, like all good celebrities, would be a steadfast advocate of the green initiative.

“Adrian, would you consider yourself to be very green?”

“Um, not very.”

“Do you think the green trend is a total sham?”

Pause

“No…Do you?”

“Yes. Yes I do.”

Surprised by my shameless skepticism, Grenier went on to assert his unwavering endorsement of all things green.

“I support people who are making an effort…But, you know, there are haters out there. And it’s no good to be a hater.”

Subtle yet poignant, I couldn’t help but think that Mr. Grenier’s closing comment suggested that I was, in fact, a hater; a social-eco-terrorist who was polluting the pure atmosphere of this environmentally friendly celebration with my noxious negativity.

Nevertheless, I was inspired by the star’s seemingly strong organic convictions and set out to find some proof that the green initiative is more than a mass marketing scheme. I found it in a character named Rowell. With a razor-sharp Mohawk and a look that mixed the raw punk of Sid Vicious with the suave style of Justin Timberlake, he dispelled my belief that the only thing green about Greenhouse was its moss-covered walls. Come to find out, the innovative downtown hotspot is constructed of recycled materials, exclusively serves organic alcohol and, of course, recycles each empty beer and liquor bottle. Maybe there’s something to be said for the green fad after all.

But Greenhouse wasn’t the only pro-active force of the event. Marque Marque, a five-time Emmy Award winning hairstylist and larger-than-life eco-eccentric, makes PETA proud and preserves the animal kingdom with his plush faux fur (or as he calls it, “fun fur”) coat.

Did you know that in India there is a ritual called Tonsuring? Which is a shaving off of all of your hair. Which is a gesture of devotion and gratitude to the gods. This happens in a place called Tirumala, a temple of the Vaishnava sect of Hinduism above the town of Tirupati. The men and women that participate in this ritual are religious pilgrims coming here to pay their respect to the resident deity. The visit is completed with the ritual Tonsuring or shaving off all of ones hair. This is a custom that has been practiced since the ninth century. But, what is a new practice, in the twenty first century is the selling of the hair, which the particpants are not aware of. But, when told that the hair is being sold around the world most of the pilgrims seem to be honored that the hair of India is appreciated by the world and very happy with there gift offered to there beloved deity. Most of the participants do not know that the hair is being sold. Now, the question I ask. Should they know? Would it matter? Should they get to profit from there gift? The pilgrims believe that they are thanking there gods, for there good fortune. Are there dreams coming True?

Ty Scott is here again. I loved his collection in January so much so that I asked him to do another show right away. Ty will be showing swim wear. There will be lots of eye candy for the boys and girls and all in between. I really wanted to get this swim wear seen before it gets hot. I want the anticipation of the the summer to fill the air. A model from the Darius Wobil's Marque's Secret showcase texted me to ask if I were going to Darius's thank you party. I told her that, I was not invited. Now I see, how a designer (Darius) could show garments that were not finished and falling apart. And, the answer is, no class. Darius does not have manners to invite the person who produced and financed a show, for his collection.

This is a perfect opportunity to let the designers interested in participating in future Marque's Secret, know that, after this season is over, there will be a cost. I am booked through the end of the year. Starting January 2010, I will no longer cover all of the expenses to showcase the designers. This has been a learning experience, in so many ways. The most important is to appreciate the gifts in life.

Thanks, Darius for giving me this gift and opportunity to inform the fashion network, that I am building of the true beauty of the fashion world.

Following, your heart and dreams can be a bumpy ride. And, I have had my share of bumps. Robert E. Knight decided to back out of the show because there was going to be a $10.00 cover. This was very surprising to me since I cover all expenses and cost to produce Marque's Secret. Robert went as far as to say that I was pimping him. Who's pimping who? As it turns out Robert is only a pebble. The next show is March 26th. showcasing the swimwear of Ty Scott.

Robert E. Knight is a designer that I have known since I arrived in New York from Washiongton, D.C. over 15 years ago. Believe it or not this is our first time working together. Robert is a man with great style and he always stands out in a crowd, something that I like in a person, which tells me that he is very sure of himself. This style and confidence is what really made me ask him to be showcased in Marque's Secret. His show will be at the Imperial Club on March 5th here in New York City. This will be my first show at the Imperial Club, I look forward to seeing Robert's collection and working with the Imperial Club.

The Yellow Wig

Where is the fun in fashion? Your answer is right here in me (Marque). I'm in love with fashion and I believe that fashion should be fun. I think some in the fashion world & the world are taking it much too serious. This yellow ensemble was created by three designers that I happen to respect a great deal. First the skirt was done by Alan Kittrell a designer from Washington, D.C. where I grew up. He has been designing things for me for more than 20 years. The top that was a redesign of a shirt in my closet by Ty Scott, a designer I showcased in my January's Marque's Secret. The wig was done by yours truely (Marque). This was inspired by my mother who's favorite color was yellow. She was the person in my life who taught me to believe in myself. And, taught me that "Dreams Do Come True"

Darius Wobil -Marque's Secret Jan 17th

Darius Wobil is a wonderful designer but it was a lesson learned for me in controlling my show. I allowed the designer, Darius to pick his own music without listening to it. The result; ending with the music putting the audience to sleep. My second mistake was relying on the venue's lighting. This will not happen again.
Now what was not in my control was the holes in the garments and strings hanging. Not to mention the rumpled undergarments that made one of the models look like she had on a diaper.
With time and hard work this young talent will reach his dreams.

Haute Hippie- Fashion Week- Friday 13th

The designer Trish Wes coat-Pound has a "Cock Skirt" that she wore to her showing which I wanted to rip off...paired with a white ribbed Tee and another item from her collection that I loved her "Dicklace" which is a combo necklace & dicky. The cock skirt by the way is made from cock feathers hence the name. Trish is a wonderful spirit with a great sense of style and humor.
Also I was honored to work with my colleagues from Xac Anthony Salon & Spa. I give them a gold star after all I've only been there 1 month. We provided hair & make up for the fabulous models, which turned out to be a blast.

Do keep abreast of shapes and cuts so that you are present, in the now.

Don't wear clothes that are not your size.
Don't wear clothes that make you feel uncomfortable, even if you do see it in all the fashion magazines.
Don't dress so relaxed that you always look like you are doing the laundry.
Don't wear a midriff top if you look 3 months pregnant and you aren't.
Don't wear big shoulder pads for the past (Dynasty).

DOS & DONTS (HAIR)

Do use molding paste for a piecey look.
Do take chances with different shapes and lengths to see what looks good on you.
Do go to professionals to help you select proper hair when doing hair extensions.
Do shop around for a colorist that is in your price range and area to insure that you keep regular appointments.

Don't wear color that is not natural to hair, unless you are under 25.
Don't use so much hair spray that your hair looks like a plastic plant.
Don't go so long between hair cuts that the ends look transparent.
Don't wear hair extensions that don't match your hair (texture or color).
Don't wait so long between color touch ups that you start to look like a zebra.

"You Are What You Eat"

"The saying you are what you eat", well it's true. Salon's tell you get a protein treatment, for your hair. I say eat a piece of fish. When you put a product on your hair it only goes on the top. You need to put the things that are good for you, inside, so that you get the benefit. Just imagine, the doctor tells you that you need more vitamin C, and you smear oranges on your body. I don't think so. In order for you to get the benefit, you need to get the vitamin C in your system. Take this approach of doctoring on your hair. I'm not saying that putting the protein on your hair wouldn't have a benefit but getting it in your system is where you need it. We need to start working on our hair from the inside. So Start drinking alot of water and eating foods that are high in natural oils (such as Avocado's) if your hair tends to be dry. You can also, put the avocado on your hair for a temperary fix. But remember work on the problems from the inside. I'm a true believer of taking care of you hair from the inside. If you take this approach you will also be a believer.
