Golden Age Glamour

This is a charcoal piece inspired by the Golden Age of movies.  The use of charcoal really emphasizes the lights and darks that help capture the glamour and romance of the era.

Scarface

This piece was inspired by the movie Scarface, my favorite scene in the movie.  The scene when you first meet Elvira played by Michelle Pfeiffer.   The piece really captures the slick feel of the Miami home where the scene takes place.  The movie was released in 1983 directed by Brian De Palma and the screenplay written by Oliver Stone.  The movie was inspired by the classic movie called Scarface: Shame of a Nation 1932.  The movie uses a historical time in history when cuban refugee's are actually released  in the spring of 1980 at the port at Mariel Harbor and allowed into the United States.  This piece is timely given the the political climate that Donald Trump has created with his remarks on illegal immigrants.  Maybe Trump is looking at movies instead of actual facts, something to think about.

Adam

This is an expressionist painting inspired by the male body.  It is called Adam to convey the disconnection from societal convention.  Being naked is natural and the human body should be looked upon and appreciated in it's natural state.  This is a statement from the artist to remind mankind that clothing is an institution created by man.

Faith Is the Power Within
By Willis C. Washington, Jr.
www.thewashingtoncollective.com

Faith is the power within
That leads the way,
And guides from within the soul,
And one must not betray,

And juiciest is the taste to be savored;
And sweet or sour it is your desire
That which way you will sway,
That which is pleasure or pain.

You’ve tasted it in it’s purest form
And at it’s warmest
Yet, never at is deepest depth
Dive and receive your reward

Follow your path led by faith

Taste your reward hold it’s weight.

Janis

This picture is inspired by Janis Joplin, I was trying to capture the emotion that Janis put into her performance.  The abstract coloring and the use of the patterns on her face helps to convey her very emotional connection to her music which added an elevated aspect to her performance.  The portrait also shows a dark side of her performance using bright colors an opposite approach to achieving darkness creating an unexpected emotion for the viewer.

Enjoy!  Yes, I said it!
